Just a short update this time.
Mrs. May ran out of time to take the UK out of the EU by 29th March 2019 as she had hoped.
So she went to Paris and Berlin to sweet-talk Monsieur Macron and Angela Merkel before going back to Brussels to ask all the EU 27 for a short extension to Article 50. She was hoping to get her Brexit deal passed quickly by Parliament to avoid having to hold EU Elections for the UK's MEPs to represent us in the EU.
The EU 27 decided that as she had so far failed to break the impasse in Parliament after nearly three years, that she would need a significantly longer extension to Article 50. They agreed on giving her an extra 6 months to achieve a decision in the UK.
The ERG group of Tories were incensed that Brexit was delayed again.
Labour Party cabinet members are having talks with cabinet members from the Tory Party.
A trickle of members from both Labour and Conservatives have left to join the Independent Group, now Change UK. Even Father of the House Ken Clarke has considered leaving the Conservatives, fearing that if Mrs. May is replaced, members of the ERG (the extreme right-wing Tories) will take hold.
Meanwhile groups asking for another public vote are proliferating, but still meeting resistance from government.
Nigel Farage has started his Brexit Party, having fallen out with UKiP (UK Independence Party), who he led previously and campaigned for Brexit before the 2016 referendum. He hopes to enthuse many of the population who have become disillusioned, even bored, with Brexit .
Mrs . May had cancelled the Parliamentary Easter holiday, but now she has a bit more time, she has reinstated it (except for her cabinet).
I have written to Labour MPs again and started another petition asking government to ask "the people" NOW whether we want to Leave the EU or to Remain.
It seems the only way to really decide what "the people " want is to ask them!
