Council has begun clean-up as we requested but not with “with sufficient resources” Still no formal response from Northern Council to our Petition. The automated reply to our email on Friday “Thanks for your email.  We’ll get back to you within 10 business days.” Here’s some more detail and photos from Pittwater Online News I will update you with what we know. We have been advised by Council that the offender and material was identified on Sunday. After several Council staff met NSW Environmental Protection Authority on Saturday morning the clean-up actions that have been recommended began. - Physical removal of contaminant around and in Neverfail Creek THANKS NSW Rural Fire Service - Flushing of the contaminated water to a point of containment THANKS NSW Rural Fire Service - Pumpout of contaminated material in upstream areas. - Further containment downstream of existing barriers in areas showing obvious signs of presence of contaminant. These activities began on Saturday afternoon and physical removal by contractors was being conducted on Monday in the upper reaches of the affected area. Downstream investigations of Kierens Creeks by volunteers have shown Dissolved Oxygen levels that are dangerously low to aquatic life in large pools. And evidence of contaminate can be seen 2.5km downstream. A very large Long Finned Eel was observed coming to the surface in this pool. Another found covered in contaminate was found in a riffle trying to get oxygen from the flow but too weak to hold its position in the flow. A distressing site for volunteers. A storm came through Sydney’s Northern Beaches on Monday afternoon and despite some areas getting rainfalls over 40mm. Terrey Hills received only 1.6mm!! So any hope of the system being flushed was crushed.
