Have the MPAA create a PG-15 rating so some R-rated films can receive a lower rating
The Issue
Right now, the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) does not have a rating between PG-13 and R. Other developed countries like France, Germany, Spain, South Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom all have a rating in between their equivalent ratings for PG-13 and R.
The main reason why there should be a PG-15 rating is that some films that feature subject matter and content that may be too extreme, adult, or heavy for younger viewers receive an R rating by default. There are many films that fall into this category: The King’s Speech, Snowden, The Grey and many others. The best example of this is the film Spotlight. The film features no nudity or sex, violent content, or extreme blood and gore. The main reason why the film has an R rating is due to the subject matter which deals with the Catholic Church child molestation scandal. A film dealing with this subject could obviously never receive a PG-13 but would qualify for PG-15 if one existed.
If you want to let the MPAA know that we want a PG-15 rating then let them know by contacting them on their website or messaging them on Twitter and Facebook. Sign the petition to help get the rating. Let them know we want a #PG-15.
