After many letters to Mount Sinai asking them to make reasonable changes and reduce the volume emitted from their EMS sirens to match other emergency vehicles in the city, to little response, I have decided to organize our neighborhood and make our voices heard. Over the past year, numerous articles have been written about the changes to Mount Sinai EMS sirens. While we understand that emergency vehicles should have the technology necessary to ensure quick response to emergencies, the volume increase and non-standard use of Mount Sinai's sirens over the past year have become decidedly un-neighborly. Many of us have called this city home for most of our lives, and are no strangers to emergency vehicle sirens: noise is part of living in this city, which makes the fact that our community's recognition of these sirens as a nuisance extraordinary and deserving of response.
