Last Saturday was a classic example of what Moonee Valley basketball families face on a regular basis thanks to years of neglect by those that are meant to represent our needs.
On Saturday, my daughter played her first basketball game ever. A momentous day for our family and one I obviously wanted to see.
Sadly, the U8's at Aberfeldie are forced to play in a different competition to the other age groups due to the lack of courts in Moonee Valley. Hence we made the trip to Broady. Thank you to the Broadmeadows Basketball Association for allowing us this opportunity.
By seeing my daughters first game, it prevented me from coaching my regular U12 Boys team who were across at Keilor Stadium (Don't laugh....it doesn't get much closer to home than Keilor).
Actually, I tell a lie. It does get closer. My oldest had his 11.20am game at Buckley Park Secondary College. This is very close to where we live so no complaints about distance.... however, this stadium is not usually utilised for matches due it barely conforming to acceptable standards.
At each stage of the Saturday morning journey, I was once again reminded how absolutely farcical this situation this.
Here we have a massive sport in this country being left behind in our community through inaction, and sadly, political bullshit.
Our kids deserve better.
Our community deserves better.
Moonee Valley Council? Basketball Victoria? Danny Pearson? Ben Carroll? Bill Shorten?
THE TIME IS NOW!
