PLEASE URGENTLY CREATE NEW ANIMAL WELFARE AND PROTECTION LAWS IN SOUTH KOREA
Your Excellency President Moon Jae-in, may I start by warmly congratulating you on your outstanding victory in becoming President of South Korea.
Everyone is very happy that you were successful in becoming President because we all know that you are a very compassionate Christian man and a strong animal-lover!
It is because of this that I am pleading with you to urgently follow the shining example of Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen, and show your greatness in creating NEW ANIMAL WELFARE AND PROTECTION LAWS in South Korea, and starting by de-classifying dogs and cats as livestock, in order to permanently end the horrific Dog and Cat Meat Trade in your country, and imposing stiff penalties to those who ignore the new laws.
The Boknal Festival is planned to take place again soon in August 2017, when thousands more innocent victims will again be sadistically tortured and murdered!
Also involved in this trade are numerous crude slaughter-houses, breeding farms, markets, so-called "health food shops" who sell the elixirs, and many restaurants who serve the meat.
Dogs and cats are gentle sentient beings and should be treated as such.
I ask you to remember a famous quotation by Mahatma Gandhi "The greatness and moral progress of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated".
If you make these important changes, this will reflect favourably on yourself and your country.
The world is watching and waiting with baited breath for you to be a great President and take urgent and decisive action for the millions of victims of this trade every year.
Thank you from the rest of the world!
FOOTNOTE TO SUPPORTERS! I know only too well that peoples' feelings are running very high (as are mine) on this highly immotive subject. But can we please remember that this petition is going to the newly elected President of South Korea to ask for his urgent help in ending this terrible trade. Because he has only just been elected on 10th May, he hasn't yet had time to do anything about it. Can we please keep all our comments posted on here to be respectful, remembering that President Moon Jae-in is indeed the Presidential Head of his country. And abusive and/or aggressive comments won't help our cause! Thank you!

We ask Your Holiness to please watch the videos of South Korea’s dog meat industry: http://youtu.be/3uR8R8Mu70Q
Each year, around 30 million dogs are slaughtered and eaten in Asia, including Korea, China, Indonesia and Vietnam. In South Korea alone, it is estimated that, annually, 2.5 million dogs and thousands of cats are brutally slaughtered and eaten.
Dogs that are bred on dog farms live in miserable conditions. In South Korea, dog meat consumption is illegal but their government is allowing it to continue, thereby causing immense suffering to these animals. All breeds of dog are used for meat, including stolen pets and abandoned dogs. They are confined to small, filthy cages, given rotten food and scraps which are unfit for consumption, denied space to exercise, and given no shelter from extreme weather conditions. They cannot even feel the ground beneath their paws as they are contained in wire cages, raised off the ground. These conditions are deplorable and cruel.
Dogs are slaughtered in the most brutal and painful methods, often in front of other dogs which watch in fear for their lives. They are beaten, stabbed, hanged, butchered, thrown into pots of boiling water, skinned, electrocuted or blow torched – often whilst still alive. This inhumane torture has to stop.
Your Holiness, you teach that all violence is injustice, and we ask Your Holiness, therefore, to speak out against the violence that is perpetrated daily in South Korea within the dog meat trade, where animals are subjected to barbaric acts of torture and unimaginable suffering.
We respectfully ask Your Holiness to stand up for the animals in South Korea, and in other Asian countries where dogs are consumed, and also to publicly voice support in favor of ending the dog meat trade.
We ask Your Holiness to stand with KoreanDogs.Org, and to share Your Holiness’s condemnation of this cruel trade. We ask Your Holiness to educate people that a compassionate society benefits everyone within it. An online petition calling for your support in ending the horrendous dog and cat meat cruelty is in progress: https://www.change.org/p/his-holiness-the-14th-dalai-lama-his-holiness-the-14th-dalai-lama-please-speak-out-against-the-brutal-dog-meat-trade Thank you in advance for your response.
Dear President Moon Jae-in,
Firstly, may I offer my sincere congratulations on your victory in becoming President of South Korea.
You will find attached a link to my petition asking you to urgently put in place new Animal Welfare and Protection Laws in order to stop the Boknal Festival and others like it, and to ban all dog and cat torture and slaughter for meat, soups, elixirs, skins, fur etc etc, in South Korea.
We are respectfully asking you to treat this as very urgent in order to spare as many more animals as possible from horrifically suffering in this trade.
Many thanks Mr President, for your urgent consideration in this emotive and important matter.
