Dear Supporter’s,
I’m delighted to confirm that Leicester City Council has officially approved and confirmed, its support for our campaign to create a statue in the city honouring championship boxer Larry Gains.
In its confirmation, the Council recognised that Larry Gains was “greatly admired by the people of Leicester, his adopted home, not only as a distinguished boxer, but also as a true gentleman who overcame both racial and social barriers to excel in his sport.”
This is a historic and meaningful victory. It shows that Larry Gains’ life, achievements, and values are formally recognised by the city he proudly called home, and it would not have been possible without your support. By signing, sharing, and standing behind this petition , you helped turn an idea into an officially supported reality.
The next step is fundraising for the Larry Gains Memorial, which will be led by The Gains Heritage Foundation charity. Alongside fundraising events, the Foundation will deliver educational initiatives, community outreach programmes, and special events that celebrate Larry Gains’ life, values, and lasting impact.
This next phase is vital to ensuring the statue is created with the quality, visibility, and dignity that Larry Gains deserve, serving not only as a memorial, but as a lasting source of pride, inspiration, and learning for future generations.

With sincere thanks and gratitude,
Mr Michael Gains
