We all know we need to keep shelters open to get as many pets in homes as possible. MCAS along with most other shelters around the country are over-capacity due to the irresponsibility of the public. They have dogs and cats from different families thrown together in tiny kennels, these victims are constantly living in urine, feces and vomit, as they are not allowed to go outside to go potty. Although we cannot change this right now, we can try to do our part and get the shelter to stop housing males and females together that are not fixed. We focus too much on trying to adopt animals that are already in our presence rather than preventing more litters that will just end up in shelters anyways. Selters often offer free spay and neuter, so people assume they do all they can to prevent future homeless pets, but then here they are housing random strays together regardless of their health status. If both a male and a female come in together, as a family, they need to get one fixed so they don't have to be separated. If the two animals are complete strangers, and not fixed, they should NEVER be housed together. Especially in these horrid conditions. Don't let these babies pay for our mistakes!
