GPA standardisation across MT
The Issue
Statewide all of Montana's schools have varying grading scales. For example Miles City (CCDHS) grades a 90-100 as an A however an A- is not considered 4.0 material. In comparison nearby Glendive MT (DCHS) who grades a 93-100 for an A, where an A- would be considered 4.0 material. Means that a scholar is less likely to receive a 4.0 average in Miles City versus Glendive. Impacting collage applications and appearing to make one student more qualified then the next. For high-schoolers who are working just as hard as someone in another town; receiving less of a GPA that will be looked at by colleges it is very discouraging. This is not just between Glendive or Miles City, the grading scale varies from town to town. Creating a statewide standard for a graded scale will ensure that every student and every effort being put in by our students is equally recognized.
