Movement to have student removed from Masuk High School

The Issue

This petition is a motion to have a particular student and any other student(s) involved in the social media attack on special need students and African Americans removed from Masuk High School and placed into an alternative setting. As a school who encourages diversity and loves and supports our special needs students, we find it very difficult to maintain peace and focus on our academics. As a community, we understand the challenges that our special needs students face everyday and we strive to see them succeed and most of all see them happy and provide an everyday oasis free of judgement and alienation. A Masuk High School junior took to social media to exercise his right to 'freedom of speech'. Yes, we live in a country where the most beautiful and powerful weapon we have is our words. Our right in America to speak freely was bestowed upon us by our founding fathers to speak on the things we believe in wholeheartedly, to touch upon subjects that the last generation could not, and to put forth positivity, validity and love into the world. This right has been abused. When we use our free voices to hurt and attack the helpless and human and project negativity, the hope for a better nation and united equality becomes tainted by the very gift were we given to do justice. As he would say , "My freedom of speech allows me to post offensive things, if you don't like it you don't have to look at it". That unfortunately is correct and it creates a hostile environment that no scholar should be exposed to. It can be recalled on several occasions that he has “joked” about shooting the school and has also made remarks about two of our loved students whom were removed by their parents due to his constant prejudice on special need students. This kind of behavior is unacceptable and worrisome and must be addressed immediately. He has disrupted our education and poses a distraction to our academics. The students of Masuk High School seek justice to the highest extent possible against He and anyone involved in the deplorable actions placed onto social media. Suspension is not enough , we seek more, much more. It is despicable and disgusting how one human can be so malicious and still stand by his actions even after retaliation and outroar. As a community who loves, cares and respects all of our students for their differences and color we find it cumbersome to have him and his constituents return to school, even after their suspension. May he be held accountable and serve as an example to anyone who dare attempt an attack on the helpless and human, that we do not tolerate hate or prejudice. Monroe Board Of Education, please stand by our motto and lead by example in our efforts to have justice served as it was intended.

United by our commitment to challenge students through high expectations, rigorous curricula, and access to a wide variety of learning opportunities, we empower all students to be inquiring learners, creative problem solvers, and responsible citizens of the global community.

Lastly, a message to the student and anyone involved in your scandal : You must understand that our right to speak freely does not mean we should offend anyone. In times like today, where violence and prejudice has overtaken our nation, we must stand together and show love and acceptance. We must stand united and walk with each other without contempt and trepidation. Your freedom of speech is a gift, and when you speak hate, it only incites hate. May you find peace and the ability to comprehend right from wrong, always remembering that what you say of others speaks more of you, than it does of them. It is admirable that you exercise your right to speak freely, but use your voice to stand for what is right and speak the truth and extend compassion and morality and we promise that you will soon see that the world can change, but it starts with you.
