Please share and shame this dirty hospital. This is the Derwent Centre at the Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust. This is known as the North Essex Partnership Trust. I was unfortunate to have been sectioned here in April 2016 for sleep mania after spending the whole night in the Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust A & E department, which I left on my own accord, however I was picked up by the police and taken to this filthy mental health unit. The doctor I saw recorded my whole life as delusional, I was at the mercy of this doctor and against my families wishes I was sectioned for 28 days. My communication tools were removed from me. Inside I was assaulted by two other mentally disturbed patients on a daily basis. Harlow police were called but failed to respond to my assault or investigate the assault during my time spent inside this dirty centre. The assaults continued on a daily basis. After my first nights sleep I was escorted to these showers where I was told to wash.I have attached pictures of the shower unit which I was able to take when a friend lent me a mobile phone. During my stay I was mixed with very sick people. There are no one to ones, each patient is drugged every four hours. My religion was denied by the doctor and he constantly made remarks about my little red book ( My Bible).
The kitchen staff failed to wear any hear nets so I resumed to eating boxed salads for 17 days. The dispensary was being operated single handedly until I pointed out this was against the law. In the early hours of one morning the fire alarms proceeded to go off, I ran to reception to be told by the nurse "mental health patients do not have a muster point, mental health patients are locked in if a fire breaks out" .During my stay the CEO of the hospital visited the Derwent Centre and I asked him for a word, we sat in private and I explained the continued assaults, no welcoming packs, procedures not being followed and I was sectioned after staying up all night in their A & E department. The CEO said he would look into this but he did nothing so I absconded the centre by distracting a security guard. I was once again returned to the centre by police after being pulled over on the A12 in a taxi. This was on a Friday night. On the Monday It was my appeal against the sectioning, it was my chance to be heard by a panel of independent people. The Dr was trying to extend my sectioning, however the panel listened to me and I was immediately released.
What I experienced was inhumane treatment. The centre is operated in a victorian fashion, many of the staff were dreadful people who appeared to enjoy the control they had over you. I was allowed a cigarette once an hour. The hospital caused problems with my businesses as I was unable to operate them without my communication tools. Inside during the day we would have colouring classes, why they think a 44 years on gentleman wants to sit and colour in a lion is beyond me. The centre was very basic. At night I was in a room with four other patients, it was difficult to sleep as a patient in another room shouted out F****** C*** all through the nights. One night the builders worked all night and it was impossible to sleep. What I saw and how I was treated will remain etched on my mind forever more. For the sake of other mental health patients, this hospital needs to clean up its act and treat people with the respect and dignity they deserve, you would not treat a cancer patient like this so don't you dare treat me or other patients in such a victorian fashion. The public pay phone was barred from me calling the police to report further assaults that took place. I was discharged without any medication as there was no doctors to sign it off, I was left climbing the walls with withdrawal symptoms
It would be some three weeks after the first assault before `i`heard from Harlow police. Upon leaving I heard nothing from the crisis team for over three weeks. I am now addicted to Olanzapine which are sedatives.
Welcome to the Dirty Derwent Centre in Harlow. Inside are the people that time forgot but I won't ever forget any of them.
This hospital must be made to clear up its act. Please share as this hospital should be totally ashamed of themselves.
This is known as the North Essex Partnership trust. I don't see where trust comes into it!
