Save Castleblayney's Market House

The manner in which Castleblayney Market House has been left for a great many years has obviously been mismanaged and is unacceptable. To continually assert that there is no money available is simply not good enough. Resources are never abundantly bountiful and must be carefully managed, the residents of Castleblayney are pragmatic and understand this, but refuse to accept that over the past 20 - 25+ years there has been zero opportunity to manage and treat this building with the respect it deserves. No credible long term viable plan was ever put in place by Monaghan County Council. Local community organisations in Castleblayney put forward plans/suggestions over the years but these were never adequately supported or acted upon by Monaghan County Council. Incredibly poor past decisions by Monaghan County Council have now come home to haunt the town, none more impacted than the residents of Castleblayney, who are now faced with a landmark building in the heart of the town that could collapse at any minute. With restricted traffic flow, a doctors surgery that patients cannot safely access, ugly temporary fencing surrounding a severely dilapidated building. Disrupted routes to the beautiful Lough Muckno. An inaccessible Big Tom statue that was only unveiled in September by our President Michael D. Higgins. A general picture of decline and disadvantage clouds the town now.

This cannot be ignored and must be acknowledged as we look to move forward on a positive and constructive path. Please help us find that path.

The people of Castleblayney demand action NOW.
