27th of May 2018 MAYOR PATRICIA DE LILLE’S EXIT STRATEGY FLIES LIKE AN EAGLE AND INVALIDATES THE ‘LAME DUCK’ ANALOGY. Dear supporters of this petition Thank you for your continued support. Our petition now stands at 1,835 supporters and growing each day. I love Aunty Pat’s exit strategy as the Mayor of Cape Town. It is clear to all of us as voters that when she is preparing to leave her position as Mayor, she goes out with glory, with guns blazing. What we as voters love about her is that when the DA’s ‘White Boys club’ decided to crucify her, she did not curl up and die in her office ‘drinking tea’ like the false prophet, Neilson prophesied. No, our Aunty Pat is on a grand tour of the Cape of Good Hope spreading the Gospel of political promises that need to be fulfilled. By doing this, she has been winning the hearts and minds of the Cape Town voters, while members of the ‘lame duck’ DA Caucus in the City Council become mere spectators. A study of the Mayor’s daily diary on Twitter at https://twitter.com/PatriciaDeLille hints at the Mayor’s daily programme and her ‘blitz’ campaign throughout the City. When the day arrives for the Mayor to leave her post, she will not leave with nothing. She will leave with a substantial percentage of DA support following her wherever she decides to go. The analogy that springs to mind is that of a passenger on a sinking Titanic. The passenger, who is endowed with a substantial amount of wisdom, realizes that after the Titanic has struck an iceberg, that the inevitable is unavoidable. He then decides to throw overboard as many floatable objects as possible including a few lifeboats, so that when the Titanic goes down in the icy cold water, he would be assured of a safe place in one of the lifeboats. Aunty Pat’s strategy is definitely not that of a ‘lame duck’. As voters, we are sure of her political survival after being the Mayor of Cape Town; in fact, if she decides to find a new political home, a substantial percentage of the DA vote would be lost to follow her wherever she might go. The DA claims that De Lille has contributed little to help the DA achieve 66% in the Western Cape. Let’s wait and see what the DA will achieve without her in 2019.
