Extend Green River CREP

Dear Governor Bevin, Senator McConnell and State Senators Givens, McDaniel,Wise, Meredith, Westerfield and Wilson:
I am asking you to please support the continuation of the Kentucky Green River CREP Program by USDA, state and local partners by providing appropriate state-cost share and federal support. I consider the CREP project on Kentucky’s Green River to be a top priority based on: the river’s significance as home to many threatened and endangered species; the fact that it is a restoration/reintroduction site for many of those species; the impact of the river on Mammoth Cave National Park- a World Heritage Site and International Biosphere Reserve; and the importance of Green River to numerous local communities. Although the Green River CREP has begun to improve the river, its clean water and wildlife benefits are yet to be fully realized. Discontinuation will threaten any such gains and undermine species reintroduction efforts and recent efforts to restore more natural flows to the river with the much-heralded removal of Lock and Dam #6. Please join our local communities in conserving the Commonwealth’s “crown jewel” of rivers by continuing the Green River CREP Program.
