Three members of the Mission Viejo City Council, Wendy Bucknum, Ed Sachs, and Greg Raths were found guilty of illegally extending their own terms in office by Orange County Superior Court Judge Walter Schwarm. Judge Scharm ordered the three members removed by 5 pm on August 31, 2022, but delayed implementing the removal until the City can file an appeal.

If Wendy Bucknum, Greg Raths, and Ed Sachs can’t be trusted to adhere to the terms of office to which they were elected, how can residents trust that they will honor other commitments they have made to residents? What will prevent them from “changing their mind” and moving forward with developments like The Gardens project on La Paz and Marguerite?
Mission Viejo residents can, and should, demand more of their representatives.
What can be done?
Show up at the Mission Viejo City Council meeting on Sept. 13, 2022 at 6 pm in the Council Chambers, 100 Civic Center, and demand that the disgraced members recuse themselves from voting on agenda items that will be implemented after the members are removed from office. These members have held their seats illegally since 2020; they should not have the ability to spend any more of YOUR money on actions like authorizing bonds to purchase run-down real estate like the Stein Mart Building.
