ADELAIDE OVAL ABDUCTION - NEW WITNESS DISCOVERED: Investigative journalist Bryan Littlely and colleague Brad Gardam have worked with a team of private sleuths, bikers and retired police over the past 12 years to unearth clues to the baffling 1973 Adelaide Oval abduction of Joanne Ratcliffe, 11, and Kirste Gordon, 4. Now, that team has this week uncovered a new witness to the most critical last known movements of the two girls before they disappeared. The friend of the Ratcliffe family is the only known surviving member of the group that was sitting in the stands together at the footy and was a part of the first search party for the girls. SAPOL has this week confirmed the new witness features in Les Ratcliffe’s first statement to police taken on the night of the August 25, 1973 abduction. Disturbingly, Suzie Ratcliffe has never heard mention of this “hidden” witness, despite Major Crime police calling on that person a decade ago to recount their formal statement to police made in 1974. It is an account of events of the first moments inside Adelaide Oval on that tragic day which differs from what has been made public for the past 50 years.
