Dear Minnesota Hockey, District Directors, Association Presidents, and USA Hockey,
I support the petition organized by Travis Dahlvang calling for fair access, transparency, and accountability in Minnesota youth hockey.
This affects families across Minnesota. Children deserve timely answers and fair opportunities to play.
We ask you to:
• Explain decisions: Publish clear rules and cite the specific rule and facts behind every denial.
• Meet deadlines: Resolve eligibility and appeals before tryouts, with provisional tryout access for timely applicants awaiting decisions.
• Support community connections: Create a workable pathway to play with school and community peers.
• Ensure fair reviews: Apply consistent standards, disclose conflicts, and provide independent appeals.
• Publish results: Release anonymous waiver totals, outcomes, reasons, and processing times by district.
• Include families: Meet with affected parents and publish a reform timeline.
• Recognize city residency: Adopt an automatic city residency waiver, issued within seven days when documented residency and taxpayer requirements are met.
Please respond with the changes you support and when you will act.
Children only get one chance at each season. Make that opportunity a priority.
