California recently passed a law that states pet stores are only allowed to sell rescue dogs, not dogs from breeders. They did this to help solve overcrowding in their shelters. A similar law should be passed in Minnesota for the same reason. Minnesota's shelters are overcrowded and so many dogs are put down each year because of that. Also, Minnesota has hundreds of puppy mills, which are breeding facilities with no regulations. Dogs from puppy mills are forced in filthy living conditions and are often abused and neglected. Many pet store dogs are a result of puppy mills, and if if this law were to pass in Minnesota then the puppy mills would be forced to go out of business. This law needs to pass for the health and well beings of all animals, from shelter dogs to purebred dogs.
