On Wednesday 28th October ACC Offered an Apology to the way it has Accessed and Denied previous Mesh Surgery Claims. They accept that this has been traumatic for many people that were denied. This is a fantastic change of heart from ACC. There are almost 400 claims that have been denied since 2005.
Mesh has been known to cause Nerve damage, Erosion, infection, and Pain so severe that many are unable to work or perform basic tasks. Their quality of life has been left with countless surgeries and incontinence.
Mesh has been used in operations for Hernia Repair (this includes Males), Urogynaecological surgery, including in the treatment of stress urinary incontinence (SUI). Surgical mesh was previously used for repair of pelvic organ prolapse until 2017 (MOH Website), but thankfully are no longer performed.
We believe that Education, Informed Choice's, Risk Assessment and Rehabilitation should be used in both pregnancy and beyond to prevent women from enduring Pelvic Floor Dysfunction and hopefully preventing surgery and life long injuries or disabilities.
If you have had a mesh related injury (These can occur years after surgery) or you know of someone that has had injury or issues after Mesh surgery please ensure that they are aware of this and they can find out more information through this link.
Keep talking the talk, and keep sharing the petition. We will need all of your support.
