Since many medicines are not under price control, many hospitals get special brands supplied to them and get the MRP printed at their own sweet will. The comparable brand is available at only 20%. An antibiotic containing piperacillin and Tazobactum is sold at ₹790 in hospitals whilst the same antibiotic is available at₹130-200 in the market. Since the hositals use medicines specially in ICU settings without raising a prescription there is no transparency in the number and the items used. The patient only comes to know at the time of paying the bill. And most of the disposables used are charged exorbitantly.
