The Issue

Reports on the internet cited a judgement in the Commercial High Court of Sri Lanka, and claimed that  Lux and Lifebuoy soap sold in Sri Lanka contain the low cost, cancer causing, synthetic detergent SDBS, which is used in other countries only for dish wash, floor cleaners and other harsh household cleaning products. It was also alleged that Unilever adds SDBS only to the soaps sold in Sri Lanka and that the SDBS % in Lux and Lifebuoy is very high. (One such report : http://www.lankaweb.com/news/items/2019/03/05/court-case-exposes-lux-lifebuoy-contain-washing-powder-ingredient-sdbs/

However Lux and Lifebuoy are still on Sri Lankan store shelves all over the country and the Ministry of Consumer Affairs is maintaining a deadly silence.

As such we request a clear statement from the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, on whether Lux and Lifebuoy should continue be on Sri Lankan store shelves it should be backed by a scientific report from our Universities; not just a press release without any accountability.
