We are still advocating for Manitoba choirs!
Now that the government is considering loosening restrictions in parts of the province, MCA is poised to send in our petition signatures along with a letter presenting the latest research that has been released on ways to sing safely in groups. Once schools move out of Code Orange, and once the province moves out of Code Red, we want to make sure choral singing is not forgotten—that it is included in updates to provincial health guidelines.
We know that choirs are yearning to return to in-person gatherings, and of course MCA wants to make sure that it is done slowly, carefully, and safely. We have seen across the world that when this is done according to stringent guidelines, it can be done safely. Since we published our petition in fall 2020, several other provinces have updated their guidelines for singing. Manitoba continues to lag behind.
We still need more signatures to bring this petition to the government, so please continue to share it via email and social media. Together, we can send a strong message of support for the choral arts in our province!
