States around Australia are calling for a ban on greyhound racing due to mass uncovered animal cruelty. Meanwhile, Greyhound Racing SA are busy building a new track in Murray Bridge. 

How many greyhounds are never being re-homed? How many die from on-track injuries? How many are killed because they're not fast enough? We've asked Greyhound Racing SA to show us their stats - something the public are entitled to know. Yet Greyhound Racing SA refuse to publicly release this information. Which makes us wonder - what are they hiding?

A recent leaked document from Greyhounds Australasia revealed that the Australian greyhound racing industry is responsible for the deaths of approximately 17000 healthy greyhounds each year. After the recent release of damning footage around the country of graveyard pits filled with dogs, and the use of 'live baiting' (live animals) in training, it is clear that the greyhound racing industry has a lot to answer for. 

SA's Racing Minister Leon Bignell states that we have a "good, clean & safe" industry here in SA, while they refuse to release their birth, rehoming & euthanasia rates & simultaneously reject calls by RSPCA for a commission of inquiry to be established into the SA greyhound racing industry. 

A parliamentary inquiry is therefore essential to ensure that there is transparency in this industry and that it is being managed with honesty and integrity. The public have a right to know what is happening to thousands of greyhounds in their own backyards.
