Dear Supporter,
As you may already know Minister Zappones Bill, the Adoption (Information and Tracing) Bill 2016 has been paused in the Seanad to allow for the Minister to find a way forward. This was primarily due to the opposition to the bill. Your support has already played no small part in this, but we need to keep the momentum going.
Aitheantas has worked intensively over the last year on our campaign to have fair legislation. We have lead with our public petition, we have lead with our supporting motions by bringing this issue up at County and City councils.
We have led with our email campaign which has been running through our petition for a number of weeks, we continue to lead by creating awareness about this by our member advocates speaking out about their own experiences and how this bill and decades of restrictive legislation has impacted on them.
But we still need your help - we need Minister Zappone to listen to us, to listen to what Adoptees, who will be directly affected by this legislation, feel about it so that we can deliver fair legislation for our community.
Our petition is nearly at 6,000 but we still need to keep building numbers. Every signature counts.
Please keep sharing and asking others to sign because this is too important to leave it to chance.
You signed our petition because this issue matters to YOU, you signed up for updates because you want to be involved because this matters. It matters to Adoptees, it matters to the husbands and wives of Adoptees who have seen the raw emotion and frustration at years spent trying to access the most basic of information.
It matters to the children of Adoptees who want to see their parents acknowledged as being equal in a society that has declared itself to be ‘open, modern and liberal’.
Now is the time - because it is too important to too many not to shout, loudly. We will keep shouting, please add your voice - ask people to sign, tag them, share the petition.
It matters to us, it matters to you. So let’s make this happen. Let’s make sure that the message we give Minister Zappone is loud, clear and emphatic.
