Open 50,000 Kendriya Vidyalayas and 50,000 Navodaya Vidyalayas in the next 5 - 10 years

The Issue

The Private Schools have created a monopoly for themselves and are charging hefty fees from the students.  To add to it, they are increasing the fees by anywhere between 10% to 40% annually.  Several Supreme Court and High Court judgements in this regard have failed to alleviate the problem.

Due to the lopsided policies since Independence, the Government has gotten its hands dirty into all kinds of industry, except for those industries where it should have invested the most - Education and Health Care. That should change. The Government should sell all (or at least some) of the PSUs including the Navratna PSUs and invest that money into building World Class Schools and Hospitals. All advanced economies do exactly that. In those economies you will rarely find the Government involved in any industry other than education, health care and transport. Everything else is privatized.

We demand that the Government start another 50,000 Kendriya Vidyalayas and 50,000 Navodaya Vidyalayas across the country in the next 5 - 10 years that would educate 200 million children.

These schools should come with the same standard of facilities that are provided in the 1200 Kendriya Vidyalayas and 660 Navodaya Vidyalayas that exist today.

To cater to the needs teacher training, we demand setting up of another 100 Regional Institute of Education (RIEs).

We demand that every Party include this in their Election Manifesto!!!

This will also create employment generation of about 50 - 100 Lakhs!!!

TO THE PARENTS:

There will also be a huge difference in the quality of education whereby qualified teachers will come to teach your children. Today the private schools have become the last resort of the bored housewife with a Bachelor's degree. They come to teach your kids with a Bachelor's degree but without any training in education. The private schools also do not invest in any teacher training either. When my son was in a private school, we used to get SMSs from the school asking for parents to be teachers in the schools. Basically, they were getting the bored housewives to the school.

Compare that with the teachers in a Kendriya Vidyalaya. They get in there after completing a Bachelor's or Master's degree __and__ a B.Ed. degree. Then they have to go through a tough national level competitive examination where only the best are selected. Thereafter, they undergo training at the Regional Institute of Education - there are currently 5 of them across the country. And then they have to undergo several training programmes once every 3 - 4 years. Now do you want such a teacher for your child or do you want another bored housewife to come and teach your children?

The choice is yours!
