There are many vulnerable children in South Africa who cannot get birth certificates because of costly DNA paternity tests (up to R2100) leaving them at risk of statelessness. Children who are already stateless can only apply for immigration permits if they pay R1350 for the application. Without such a permit they cannot go to school or access medical care and they have no pathway to citizenship. Lawyers for Human Rights has launched a crowdfunding campaign to pay for the DNA tests and visa applications of such children. You can make a difference by donating toward their cause. If you donate today, Global Giving will match your donation so more children can be assisted. With the necessary funds, LHR can draft and pay for applications for status for stateless children and establish proof of nationality for the children who have South African parents but have no proof.
