Canadians Concerned About Lyme Disease
Nov 13, 2018

After 5 years in the court system, Ontario resident Frank Papineau is heading to trial - suing 2 physicians and Kemptville District Hospital for medical malpractice following misdiagnosed Lyme disease.  He sought medical help after a tick bite and a “red ring of inflammation around the bite”.  The trial will start November 26, 2018 in the Ottawa area and is expected to last 4 weeks.

Court proceedings are normally open to the public and interested Canadians in the Ottawa area can consider attending all or part of the trial.

Mr. Papineau’s statement of claim (link to the full document can be found in the attached Canlyme article) states:

“Following the visit at the Emergency Department, Frank Papineau suffered an onslaught of physiological symptoms …over the course of two years…. he repeatedly asked [the] Dr.. if there was a possibility that he had Lyme disease. Frank Papineau was never investigated for Lyme disease….Frank Papineau was diagnosed with a complicated case of Lyme disease.”

and:

“The plaintiff pleads that the consequences of the Defendants’ actions have had a detrimental effect on his life as the impairment has significantly interfered with his ability to enjoy his pre-accident lifestyle.”

Through the 2,700 personal Lyme Letters we received and delivered to the federal Minister of Health, as well as through this Petition, we have heard many similar shocking and heartbreaking stories from Canadians coast to coast.  Whether infected in utero or through a tick bite, Canadians of all ages deserve to be able to access medical care offering appropriate up-to-date knowledge, concern, clinical assessment, testing, treatment & care in Canada, for all modes of transmission and stages of these diseases.
