As you know, last month a High Court judge granted us permission to proceed with our equal civil partnerships case against the government, as well as a partial Protective Costs Order, which would limit our liability for the government’s legal costs in the event that we are unsuccessful. The judge’s ruling shows that the case is in the public interest and is of public importance. It is a positive step towards opening civil partnerships to all.
Our campaign and the judge’s ruling were covered in the media, giving us the opportunity to draw even more people’s attention to why some might understandably and legitimately be unwilling or unable to get married, but want a civil partnership; the direct discrimination in the law that prevents us and many other opposite-sex couples from becoming civil partners; and a potential remedy to this anomaly through supporting our legal effort and petitioning the Government Equalities Office to take action.
Some of you may have seen us on ITV London News. Here’s a selection of the best coverage:

What’s next?
Donations are now URGENTLY required to enable the case to proceed since we could still be liable for up to £70,000 of legal costs if we lose – an extremely onerous amount for us with a baby on the way! So we have launched an appeal for new contributions via crowd-funding website GoFundMe: http://www.gofundme.com/civilpartnerships. Please consider donating now.
Thank you for your on-going commitment and support.
With warm wishes,
Rebecca and Charles
