Dear friends,

The Bill that would open civil partnerships to all reaches its committee stage in the House of Lords this Friday. This is great progress.

But it is our understanding that the Government is planning a technical amendment that would effectively delay the introduction of equal civil partnerships until 2020.

This is unacceptable. The Supreme Court ruled unanimously that the current situation has been unlawful for over five years. And there are couples that literally cannot wait any longer to have a civil partnership – time is running out for them.

So please send an email to the following key figures in Government, stressing the urgency, and asking them to stick to the original timetable – civil partnerships for all by October 2019:

1.     Penny Mordaunt MP: penny.mordaunt.mp@parliament.uk
2.     Baroness Hodgson of Abinger: hodgsonf@parliament.uk
3.     Baroness Williams of Trafford: williamssb@parliament.uk

Thank you for supporting the campaign for equal civil partnerships over the long haul.

We’re almost there, but we need to keep up the pressure.

Rebecca and Charles
