Well, it’s finally arrived: The week our case for equal civil partnerships reaches the High Court. Our legal team is now making their final preparations and the case will be presided over by a senior judge, whose name will be announced tomorrow afternoon. The hearing takes place this Tuesday 19 and Wednesday 20 January. It is open to the public and it would be lovely to meet as many supporters as possible, so do please come along if you can. The exact room location will be listed here https://www.justice.gov.uk/courts/court-lists/list-rcj and on a notice board behind the main enquiry desk to the Royal Courts of Justice - look for our surnames and case number CO/6008/2014. We can’t guarantee that you’ll be able to witness some history in the making, but whether or not you can come in person, the fact that thousands of us – over 33,000 and counting – are calling for civil partnerships to be open to different-sex couples is a clear statement of demand as well as a demand that the status quo can and must be changed. The effort for #EqualCivilPartnerships was featured in today’s Independent on Sunday: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/judge-to-rule-whether-heterosexual-couple-can-be-allowed-to-form-civil-partnership-a6816831.html We anticipate more media interest in the coming days and request that you now consider doing two things: 1. Contribute to the public debate by sharing your reasons for supporting #EqualCivilPartnerships on Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms as well as in radio and TV phone-ins. 2. If you can, please donate to our Legal Fund: http://gofundme.com/civilpartnerships. We wouldn’t have been able to come so far without your financial support, but we still have some way to go to meet our legal costs. Any amount, however big or small, will be gratefully received. Wish us luck this week and thank you for joining us on this journey – together, hopefully, we will change this unequal status quo so that everyone can have the choice of a civil partnership. Charles & Rebecca
