Disability advocate Kate Beaumont believes the crackdown has led to more claims being rejected. "We've seen an increase in a number of appeals and we gather that the Administrative Appeals Tribunal have had a massive increase and most of those matters are DSP matters, so around eligibility, but also about cancellations of payment as well." Ms Beaumont said worthy recipients are missing out. "There just needs to be more resources put into this area, because vulnerable people are not on payments that they should be on at the moment." A spokesman for the Government told the ABC there were no reduction targets associated with the DSP. "The changes to the DSP are to ensure that only those with a genuine need are able to access it," they said. "Reforms to the DSP have slowed the growth in recipient numbers."
