HANDS OFF THE PROM - SAY NO TO PRIVATE BOAT TOURS AT TIDAL RIVER , NORMAN BAY.

Keep Wilsons Prom pristine: it is now under threat.

A new private enterprise has been approved by  Parks Victoria -  9 boat tours per day are to be launched at northen end of Norman Bay. This will directly impact on this beautiful, untouched beach. Motorised vehicles will be on the beach every day: with several motorised launches departing amd returning daily. This will compromise children’s safety on the beach, limit where beach goers can safely swim, significantly increase the environmental footprint on Wilsons Prom: think additional rubbish (in the ocean, on beach and around Tidal River) , intrusion on the seals’ natural habitat, probable erosion around Tidal River and noise pollution.

In addition several more cars and bus loads of visitors will place high demand on the Prom’s facilities at no cost to these day visitors.

Furthermore, the process of a private boat tour company being approved by Parks Victoria has been questionable. There has a limited public consultation process.

Prom Campers Association members and victoria National Parks Association have both expressed signicant concerns about this commercial venture.

Alternative, appropriately run boat tours already exist from nearby Port Welshpool.

So what does Wilsons Prom stand to benefit from this private enterprise? Nothing. But it has a lot to lose.
