Ireland: Ratify the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

The Issue

#RatifyCRPD

Ten years after it was adopted by the United Nations (UN), Ireland still hasn't ratified the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)

The Convention promotes, protects and strengthens the human rights of all people with a disability throughout the world. Countries sign up to the CRPD by ratifying it.

There are are laws that need to change to make sure Ireland can fulfill all of the human rights that people with disabilities before it can ratify the Convention.

The Irish Government said it would get everything done to ratify the Convention by the end of 2016 but this did not happen.

All that is needed now is the political will to prioritise the rights of people with disabilities.

By ratifying the Convention, the Irish Government would show that it is fully committed to an equal society where the human rights of people with disabilities are fully respected and upheld.

No more delays. We have waited long enough. #RatifyCRPD.
