Throughout the year about 206 million pounds of toxic waste are dumped into oceans and other bodies of water. These toxic waste or chemicals can be found in liquid form, solid form, radiation and other forms.

Many people do not realize, but almost 100,000 sea mammals die because of these toxic waste. Because of this, whales, turtles, sea lions, sharks, dolphins, seals, and other ocean animals are endangered. Not to mention many species of these animals are extinct.

Now you might be wondering, how does all these toxic waste end up in the ocean in the first place? Some of the biggest companies that are responsible for this are mining companies. Mining companies usually dump toxic waste in oceans because they believe that local people will not be affected by it since local people are not dependent on marine environment for food.

However in reality, it affects almost all marine animals. It is important we all raise awareness and encourage mining companies to not dump toxic waste in oceans.
