END the Pig Scramble at the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition in Truro.

The Issue

Please put an end to the "Pig Scramble" at the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition in Truro.

Peoples' attitudes towards animals have changed greatly in recent years. In this Pig Scramble, young teens and children compete to catch young piglets. The piglets are frightened and screaming.

These events are emotionally and physically damaging to the innocent piglets involved. They cause unnecessary stress and potential injuries.

The "Pig Scramble” teaches children to mistreat animals. Children should be taught to respect and to be kind to animals. Now more than ever, adults have a responsibility to teach children the importance of empathy, compassion, and dignity towards all Earth’s creatures.

In short, these events are inhumane and unnecessary.

In February 2017, a similar event was voted out by the board of the Westmorland County Agricultural Fair, in Petiticodiac, New Brunswick -- After appeals there by protest and a petition just like this one. Victory! The council voted the Pig Scramble out!

The Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition in Truro is to have their Pig Scramble event during the exhibition in August, 2017. We are asking for the 2017 Pig Scramble events to be cancelled, and for this event to be ended, to not be held in future years.
