With few local mask requirements in place in Wisconsins, Gov. Tony Evers' statewide mandate, not much enforced or followed in many communities, is the best that we've got.

Now, GOP state legislators are planning to kill even that.

Recent reporting here ("GOP lawmakers seek to end mask mandate, public health emergency") and here ("With 5,600-plus COVID-19 deaths, Wisconsin Republicans propose getting rid of mask mandate") lays out the plan: A vote in the state Senate on Tuesday with an Assembly vote likely to follow. Just simple majorities required in each Republican-controlled house, not subject to gubernatorial veto.

Ugh.

All we can do is contact our own state Assembly representative and State senator (we all have one state rep and one state senator). Send them each a quick email or make a quick call -- tell them for health, safety and economy of Wisconsin, vote against any legislation to repeal the mask requirement. (To find your two state legislators, follow this link, type your address in the search box in the upper right corner, and you'll get their names and contacts.)

If you can, please share this email, post it on social media, contact your local media outlets about the issue.

We'll get through this, but pro-Covid legislators ain't making it any easier.
