Happy Fourth of July weekend, everyone! Thank you for your patriotism in believing in the American ideal of creating community and caring for your fellow citizens by supporting a mask requirement for Milwaukee!

The Milwaukee Common Council is scheduled to vote this Tuesday (July 7) on a proposed ordinance to require masks in public places!

If you are a Milwaukee resident, you can make a huge difference by emailing your support today to 1) your specific alder and 2) to the mayor.

Email address and name of your alderperson
If you don’t know your alderperson's name, click here. After inputting your address, scroll down the page you're taken to and click on the “elected officials" heading. There, you’ll find your aldermanic district, the name of your alderperson and a clickable email link to them. (If you already know your alder, you can click on their picture here and you’ll be taken to a page that includes their clickable email link.)

Email for the mayor
Here is Mayor Tom Barrett's email.

What to say?
- Keep it short and sweet.
- In the subject line, write something like "I support a City of Milwaukee mask mandate."
- In the text, restate that you support a City of Milwaukee mask mandate.
- Give them your name and address, and let them know you are a constituent.
- Ask your alder to vote for the ordinance. Ask the mayor to sign it into law.
- If you'd like, add a reason or two for your support.

It's that simple. Our alderpersons and mayor are much more likely to pass the ordinance if they hear from actual constituents like you -- and now is the time!

Thanks again. Nearly 11,000 (!) of us have signed this petition. With your help, we can get this over the finish line, protect our community and help stop the spread of the coronavirus.
