Tomorrow, the Missouri state and county NAACP will host a press conference with state representative Bruce Franks Jr. to denounce the comments prosecutor Bob McCulloch made last week in response to Marcellus’s stay of execution.
McCulloch (the same prosecutor who refused to indict the police officer who shot Michael Brown), made a statement last week that he believes there is “zero possibility” Marcellus is innocent. Such comments indicate a lack of openness to the very evidence that will help prove Marcellus’s innocence – exactly the opposite of what is needed for an unbiased review of Marcellus’s case.
That’s why tomorrow leaders from the Missouri NAACP and state representatives are coming together to speak out against these comments, and to set the record straight for the press. Will you join them?
If you can attend, please print out one of these two signs (http://bit.ly/2wgtDTA or http://bit.ly/2wgRz9h) to carry with you, and help us send a strong message to the press that people are still fighting for Marcellus, and that we won’t stand idly by as prosecutor Bob McCulloch tries to interfere with proving his innocence.
While what happened last week was surely a victory, we must remember that this is not the first time Marcellus is receiving a stay of execution, and maintain the perspective that a stay of execution is not a ticket to freedom. It’s time we proved Marcellus’s innocence once and for all.
Please help us do so by attending tomorrow’s press conference at 11 AM CT, on the steps of the St. Louis County Courthouse located at 105 S. Central Ave in Clayton, MO.
