All-

Terry Gaasterland and I write to bring you up to date on the possible fencing of Del Mar’s bluffs. Del Mar City staff are presently negotiating with NCTD staff to find a solution that will work for everyone.

On Thursday May 20th at 2pm, the NCTD Board will meet to consider approval of funding related to fencing the bluffs.

Our position: No fencing along the bluffs is necessary. If anything, use limited cable-and-post in a targeted way near Coast Blvd and Powerhouse Park. Combined with better signage and public awareness campaigns, this can work. A separate safe-crossing study is also underway to show where and how to build crossings near 7th and 11th Streets.

Please submit a comment to the NCTD Board members in advance of Thursday’s vote referencing “Item 16 - Vote No on the Del Mar Fence”.
