Pioneer News Group had decided to close both the print and on-line versions of the West Yellowstone News as of September 2nd.

The West Yellowstone News plays a vital role in the isolated small community of West Yellowstone, Montana. Because of the towns isolation and small population, It provides the only source of local news and the only source of local journalism covering local issues, town government, local business,and the West Yellowstone school. The West Yellowstone News also provides a public service to the 1.6 million visitors who travel to and through West Yellowstone to visit Yellowstone National Park. 

For years the West Yellowstone News was known as the "Best Little Newspaper in Montana" and was named a 2016 Excellence Award Winner by the Montana Newspaper Association. Pioneer News Group is abandoning it's long standing commitment to providing a local news source for the citizens of West Yellowstone.
