Thank you so much to the 7,000+ people who have already signed our petition calling for urgent action to protect the future midwifery workforce. Your support means everything. But to turn this momentum into real change, we need one more step from you.

Please share the petition with your friends, family, WhatsApp groups, antenatal groups, and colleagues.

Every signature strengthens our call for safe staffing and a fair pathway into employment for newly qualified midwives.

We are also asking supporters to write to their MP. When MPs hear directly from their own constituents, it creates the kind of pressure that leads to action. It takes two minutes. You can find your MP at writetothem.com, paste in a short message saying you support the campaign, and send it. Even a brief email makes a difference. We have a template below.

Once you receive a reply, please forward it to fundfuturemidwivesuk@gmail.com so we can track responses and build a national picture.

Student midwives are qualifying into a system with no jobs, despite completing thousands of clinical hours and being urgently needed in maternity services. This is not sustainable for midwives or for families. We cannot allow this to become normal.

Please keep sharing the petition, keep spreading the word, and keep the momentum going. Together we can push for the change maternity services desperately need.

Thank you for standing with us.

MP Template Letter

Dear [MP name],

I am writing to ask for your support in addressing the urgent situation facing student midwives and newly qualified midwives across England.

Thousands of student midwives are due to qualify this year, yet many NHS trusts have announced no available jobs, despite these students completing more than two thousand clinical hours and being urgently needed in maternity services. This gap between training and employment is leaving newly qualified midwives without a pathway into the profession, and it risks worsening the national staffing crisis that affects the safety of women, babies and families.

Fund Future Midwives UK, a student‑led campaign, has launched a petition that has now reached over seven thousand signatures. You can view it here:

https://c.org/XPxzcp2Txq

Student midwives have spent years training, working long days, nights, weekends and on‑call shifts in busy and often understaffed maternity units. They have supported women and families through pregnancy, birth and postnatal care. Yet many now face unemployment at the point of qualification because of funding decisions that do not reflect the needs of maternity services.

Safe maternity care depends on safe staffing and a stable workforce. Without a clear employment pathway for newly qualified midwives, services will continue to rely on agency staff, stretched teams and temporary solutions. This is not sustainable for staff or for families.

As my representative in Parliament, I am asking you to:

Acknowledge the workforce gap affecting newly qualified midwives
Raise this issue with ministers responsible for maternity and workforce planning
Support calls for a funded, national employment pathway for newly qualified midwives
Advocate for long‑term investment in maternity staffing to ensure safe and consistent care for families
This issue affects the future of the midwifery profession and the safety of maternity services across the country. I would be grateful for your support and look forward to your response.

Yours sincerely, [Your name] [Your postcode]
