After a disastrous and upsetting trip to Penicuik park where there was nothing suitable for my son with additional needs to go on, I was shocked to discover there is not one park in Midlothian with equipment geared towards children with disabilities. The nearest suitable provision is The Yard in Edinburgh which is a substantial car/bus journey from Midlothian through town. A designated park in Midlothian, catering towards children with additional needs to enable them to enjoy and participate in outside play should be available. Somewhere like Vogrie would be ideal, a well maintained environment where equipment would be safe and being alongside all the other fantastic play facilities there, making it a wholly inclusive venue. This would benefit hundreds of families. It would be brilliant to be able to simply go to a park with my little boy and manage to put him in a swing. Simple as that.
