We need your help again: Oppose the Line 5 Oil Pipeline Tunnel

Thank you for signing onto our letter last year calling on Michigan’s governor to shut down Line 5, the 65 - year old pipeline pumping oil through the Straits of Mackinac. Thanks to your support, we sent in over 23,000 public comments opposing the Line 5 oil pipeline to Michigan officials.
Now we need your help again. Please sign onto this letter opposing a new oil tunnel under the Great Lakes!
Despite the public’s strong support of shutting down Line 5, Michigan’s current Governor Snyder has chosen to cut a deal with Enbridge, the Canadian energy company that owns Line 5 to build a tunnel under the Straits of Mackinac to house a new oil pipeline and continue transporting oil through Michigan for up to 99 more years. This deal also would allow the current, damaged Line 5 pipeline to continue operating in the heart of the Great Lakes for the next decade while the tunnel is under construction.
The people of Michigan just elected a new governor who has said she will shut down Line 5, and her administration will take over in January. But Governor Snyder, with this deal with Enbridge, is trying to tie her hands and lock us into a tunnel.
This new tunnel comes at a time where acting on climate change is of vital importance. We should not be investing in new fossil fuel infrastructure for another 99 years, instead we should be moving off oil and investing in clean energy.
