On Tuesday, MPs have their first opportunity to debate the Online Safety Bill as part of its journey to becoming law. This is called the Bill’s ‘Second Reading’.

This is a crucial opportunity for MPs to voice their concerns about the proposed law - and a chance for them to raise the absence of women and girls from protections.

CLICK HERE to tweet or email your MP and ask them to take action and speak at the Second Reading on Tuesday.

In 225 pages of legislation, the words ‘women’, ‘girls’ or ‘gender’ are not mentioned a single time. Until violence against women and girls is named in the Online Safety Bill, it will not go anywhere near far enough to address our needs.

We are also concerned that this law will not do enough to address the racist and sexist abuse that disproportionately targets Black women.

What can you do?

We have created briefings for Tuesday. You can read EVAW’s here - please do send it to your MP and ask them to take action.

And keep talking about how the Online Safety Bill is failing women and girls, keep sharing our petition and keep contacting your MP!

We will update you with our reflections on the debate next week.

Thank you as ever for all of your support and solidarity. Have wonderful bank holiday weekends!

Seyi and Andrea
