Take disciplinary action on Barry Spurr!
The issue
The New Matilda has revealed that Barry Spurr has many and lengthy emails filled with racist, sexist and vile language directed against disadvantaged minority groups. He describes Aboriginal peoples as "a rubbish tip: human and material", he describes Asiatic peoples as "Chinky-poos", and he hurls slurs with greater frequency than a hyper-active tennis ball machine fires tennis balls.
Furthermore, he is reporting to the National Curriculum Review to develop the high school curriculum, recommending it be even whiter and more Judaeo-Christian. It is unacceptable that he be allowed to guide the education nation-wide.
We want Barry Spurr to be stripped of his role in the National Curriculum Review and his contributions shredded.
We want Barry Spurr to be publicly reprimanded by the University of Sydney and official disciplinary action taken. In the Staff Code of Conduct, staff are required to uphold "respect, and ethical behaviour" and must not discriminate. The University must take clear, decisive action; else they condone the racist, sexist, and discriminatory language of Barry Spurr.
We find this behaviour unacceptable. We call on the University to act. We call on the Government to act.
