The are currently two bills that have been introduced by the State representatives Yancey and Miyares. HB 79 and HB 94.
If passed, there will be limited groups for boarding and Day Camp. Only 2 dogs over 75lbs in a group, 3 dogs 50-74lbs in a group, 3 dogs 30-49lbs in a group etc. Our present daycamp dogs will not be allowed to play together. Dogs that have been playing together for years will not be allowed in a group. It also calls for fencing small enough so a dog can not get its nose through. This means installing solid fencing between yards, further isolating dogs from interacting with each other.
When opening the Pet Resort in 2005 there was a huge movement by dog owners to move away from the old kennel concept of indoor/outdoor runs three feet wide. Where dogs, which are pack animals and social, have no interaction with other dogs. These bills will put us back to the stone ages, isolating our pets.
Additionally, dogs in the same family will not be allowed to board together in the same room, since they must be constantly monitored 24 hours a day.
Day Camp will not exist in Virginia if these bills pass.
