Thank you all for your support of this petition to stop METRO from building an overpass through the heart of our residential neighborhood, Eastwood, in Houston, Texas. In the final days of February, 2023, our community learned that METRO planned the overpass. We organized and promoted the petition, and spoke against the overpass at multiple community and METRO Board meetings. We reached out to our elected officials and benefitted from their advocacy, most notably US Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia and Houston City Councilman Robert Gallegos. On March 31, METRO announced they would instead build an underpass along Lockwood. An underpass will have a similar impact, so the community continued to press METRO to change their preferred route and avoid the division of our neighborhood. On April 5 the METRO Board approved the route for University Corridor BRT despite ongoing community concerns and objections. So we'll declare that progress has been made and continue to work toward improvement. Thank you again for your support of our worthy cause.
