MMDA Suspends Provincial Bus Ban Dry Run

Efforts and inputs from our coalition members, commuters, and other stakeholders are heard.  The MMDA is suspending the bus ban dry-run.  This will allow more time (as we requested) to (i) better assess and analyze the facts, data relevant to provincial bus operations, and (ii) hear views of the affected commuters.

MMDA Suspends Provincial Bus Ban Dry Run

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority announces today the temporary suspension of the dry run of the provincial bus ban along EDSA.

MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia said the dry run is temporarily halted pending the meeting among MMDA, Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

 “We will continue with the dry run once the guidelines and implementing rules have been ironed out by the three agencies involved,” Garcia said.

Further, according to Garcia, MMDA does not want the policy to be politicized at this time when politics is too dominant because of the coming elections.

However, Garcia clarified that the strict enforcement of the no loading and unloading along EDSA for provincial buses will remain in effect.

The provincial bus ban is a result of MMC Regulation Number 19-002 revoking / canceling the business permits of all provincial bus terminals along EDSA approved by the Metro Manila mayors last March..
