Equitable Eagle Rock supporters,

It's been awhile since we last updated this campaign. I'm hoping you are all staying safe!

Metro has been in the process of developing design plans for BRT as part of a forthcoming Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR). Metro may share potential designs with the Eagle Rock Neighborhood Council on Tuesday, September 1, 7pm (see Agenda item III.G.). Zoom link here: zoom.us/j/91626372513 

We’re concerned that Metro will present options that do not incorporate the primary feedback the community provided for BRT in Eagle Rock. I’m worried that Metro may pursue options that remove parking, landscaped medians, and/or bike lanes. But we know it's possible to make Colorado Blvd a more complete street that works for everyone, and all modes of transportation. 

We deserve workable options that not only improve the quality of our neighborhood corridor, but contribute to a more equitable environment for all members of our community. That includes fighting for those bus riders (often people of color and low-income residents) who are being left out of these conversations, but who need quality transit they can rely on, now more than ever. 

How can you help?

Attend the virtual meeting on Tuesday, hear Metro’s presentation and make a comment to express support for:

1. Options that repurpose vehicle lanes to bus lanes and result in a safer street

2. Options that include protected bike lanes, landscaped medians and curbside parking (for reference, this area has a Specific Plan in place that has avoided large parking lots/structures by relying on curbside parking)

3. Options that use BRT-style buses that allow boarding from both sides (from a central station on the driver side + traditional curbside boarding)

4. Options that utilize narrow travel lanes to reduce vehicle speeds
