UPDATE FROM TRANSPORT COMMITTEE MEETING

Last week myself, two other Wellington College parents (representing the Wadestown bus routes to Colllege) and Dave Ashby, Deputy Principal met with Greg Campbell, CEO of GWRC. We had outlined our concerns to him prior to the meeting and Greg and his team presented their results from the bus monitoring work they conducted a few weeks ago. They agreed that on the Karori route, and Wadestown route, there is overloading at peak hour travel times and not enough buses to transport the College students and public commuters. We discussed the feedback from the petition and I also took the opportunity to mention that Wellington Girls College is experiencing the same issues. Greg and his team were extremely positive, helpful and genuinely concerned about the issues we brought to the table. Following this meeting Greg attended the Sustainable Transport Committee meeting today and presented a proposal to request extra buses for the Karori and Wadestown (and other) routes. Greg has advised me this afternoon that there was unanimous agreement by all members of the Transport Committee for this proposal. This is subject to formal ratification next week in a full Council meeting. There will also be negotiations to follow with the bus operators. Full implementation of the additional buses is proposed for November. This is a great start and we are very encouraged by the proactive and positive response Greg and his team have actioned. Thanks again everyone - our collective voice has been heard! :)
